Interview with vendor

I visited the New Lynn night market, last night and found some interesting people and vendors whom I interviewed. I recorded most of the interviews as it was pretty busy and I didn’t want to get any passersby on film and upload it on the internet without their permission. So here is the first interview I did with a lovely vendor, Lee David, who was at the Organo Gold stall.

How long have you been participating as a vendor at the New Lynn night market?

I’ve been doing the night market for three months- every Thursday night.

What are your thoughts on the concept of the night market in New Lynn?

It’s great…Getting lots of regulars back now and everyones enjoying the food- different varieties of food- different cultures…It is bringing the community together, its great for New Lynn.

With this only being a six month project would you like to see this become a permanent event?

Hopefully it will keep going. Everyone’s enjoying it…It’s great. We’ve got music and..its safer, it makes New Lynn a safer place- as it is a pretty scary place if you are walking alone, but if there’s people around, it changes the whole dynamics.

Would you like to see more of these around Auckland and perhaps New Zealand?

Yes! Definitely. A lot of people say…they want more local night markets.

Is the New Lynn night market the only one run by the Auckland Council?

In West Auckland, yes…It’s fantastic!

Which stalls do you like to visit as a customer?

Well, I try and vary my self, ‘coz it’s very hard…Pretty much try everything, there always something new to try every week.

Is there anything you would like to see change or improve regarding the New Lynn night market?

Not really. The format’s good… Maybe get a few more crafty things…or…jewelry…It is all food, maybe people would like something else to look at.
